1 | Recognition (Trio TRICEPS | 1996)

This is a bebop / mainstream jazz album with arranged jazz standards and three original songs in the traditional jazz trio composition: piano, bass and drums. Its recorded in 1996 and those were different times; far less digital in terms of studio hard and software. Therefore we came well prepared and recorded the compositions live in the studio and most of them in only one or two takes.

2 | NextSteps / Crossing Over (Bart Flos Solo | 2000)

This is the first solo album in the NextSteps Projects series (Stage 1). It provides a wide range of musical styles such as jazz, blues, pop and fusion and can therefore be regarded as a musical resume of that time. It was my attempt to merger the acoustic and digital musical world: recordings at the grand piano, at a digital keyboard and combined.

3 | Thoughts (Bart Flos Solo | 2003)

This is one of three solo albums to expand on NextSteps Projects’ maiden voyage in 2000. This NextSteps Projects Stage 2 album contains only solo piano compositions meant to convey my thoughts on improvised jazz music at the time. I just sat down and started playing and everything you here is improvised on the spot. Melodies emerge and merge with the improvisations and vice versa.

4 | Expectations (Bart Flos Solo | 2003)

This is the second of three solo albums released as part of NextSteps Projects Stage 2. This album contains compositions with various instruments played on one digital keyboard in different styles: jazz, blues, latin and fusion accompanied by magnificent digital drum scores that allow me to focus on the bass in my left hand and all the rest in my right. Most of the work is improvised on the spot.

5 | Connections (Bart Flos Solo | 2003)

With this third album of a series of three as part of NextSteps Projects Stage 2 I wanted to ‘connect’ my music with more contemporary styles such as pop, dance, house, trance and jungle. It’s a great way to open up jazz music to more than jazz lovers alone. Most of the compositions were prepared in my own music studio and subsequently expended, extended, fortified, finished and mastered in the main recording studio.

6 | Blow-out (Bart Flos Solo | 2006)

As part of NextSteps Projects Stage 3 I recorded 300 compositions in a periode of six weeks of which I subsequently derived 17 new solo albums. This album highlights the compositions recorded as multiple instruments (piano, Fender Rhodes, jazz organ, various guitars) played in different styles, such as jazz, blues, fusion, funk, dance and house. I used a variety of digital drum scores that were looped to allow me to improvise on it. All compositions are recorded in real time, one take, no overdubs. What you here is how it’s been played.

7 | Nose to Key (Bart Flos Solo | 2006)

As part of NextSteps Projects Stage 3 I recorded 300 compositions in a periode of six weeks of which I subsequently derived 17 new solo albums. This album contains highlights of that period in solo piano compositions, one digital instrument at the time: acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, acoustic guitar, even an accordeon. All compositions were recorded real time, one take, no overdubs. What you here is how it’s been played.

8 | Roots & Reflections (Bart Flos Solo – 2019)

That first idea in 2013, the composition Origin Alpha Prime, ultimately resulted in the biggest NextSteps Project so far: Stage 6, the creation of the Jazz Suite Roots & Reflections. After recording digital Concept Audio Files and deriving the subsequent Sheet Music (part 1), a selection of compositions of this jazz suite was played solo at the grand piano (part 2). It provides you with the idea that this jazz suite is like a musical family: all compositions are interconnected, related and intertwined; they influence each other.

9 | Roots & Reflections (Bart Flos Trio – 2019)

After almost 25 years I was eager to see my Jazz Suite Roots & Reflections reflected in a jazz trio again as part of the NextSteps Projects Stage 6. Therefore it was a great experience to see my music being fortified by such awesome musicians as Eric van der Westen on bass and Marc Schenk on drums. The trio album contains different jazz styles: swing, blues, latin and fusion as part of that musical family that I intended to convey with my jazz suite. Therefore all compositions are interconnected, related and intertwined; they influence each other.

10 | Roots & Reflections (Bart Flos Solo & Trio | 2019)

All the albums produced under NextSteps Projects are available on all streaming platforms. But for this special occasion as part of NextSteps Projects Stage 6 I have also released a Triple-CD Jazz Album containing three discs: solo, trio and a bonus CD. The bonus CD with alternate and bonus takes however is only available with the Triple-CD Album and can be obtained only through various webshops.
